Immanuel Church, Chichester - Wider support

We support a number of missionaries in different parts of the world, all of whom have their roots in Chichester. We believe that mission, whether overseas or in the UK, is one of the key responsibilities of the church.

We also believe that Christians in the west have a responsibility to support development work and churches in poorer parts of the world. Examples of areas we have been able to contribute to this have been providing cows and other livestock to families in Uganda and Rwanda via Send a Cow and by providing bicycles for clergy in a new diocese in Kenya. Our photograph shows the first of many bicycles being handed over to the Bishop and some of his clergy. We have also raised funds to dig wells in needy areas in the same diocese.

One of our members has been the driving force in setting up a new training college in Nigeria - an area where education is such a key to improved prospects.

Several other members of the church were able to form a small team which built an extra storey and a roof on a church centre near Kampala, Uganda. The photograph shows the project part way through.

Another of our members has recently started work with CMS in Zambia training midwives.

Our financial response to international relief work is usually channelled through Tear Fund.

Some of our younger members have spent short periods with Christian development organisations in Uganda, Malawi, Egypt, Mexico, India, Northern Ireland and Ghana.
